New Kiehl's masks: collective test drive
Seven beauty insiders test Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque and Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque. And they disagree.
Two new Kiehl’s masks (codenamed “red” and “green”) arrived at our editorial office in quantities that were enough for everyone. Beauty insiders were delighted and immediately began to compare impressions.
Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque, Kiehl's
The mask promises to fill the skin with radiance and energy, restore its healthy appearance and smoothness. Contains turmeric and cranberry extracts, plus crushed cranberry seeds for gentle exfoliation.
Although it is not directly indicated, the “red” mask is more likely to be used in the morning, and the “green” mask is more likely to be used in the evening. Apply the composition for 5-10 minutes until it dries, then rinse with warm water, gently massaging so that the cranberry seeds have time to exfoliate the skin.
Yana Zubtsova
Skin: normal, sometimes prone to dryness, sometimes to oily, there are wrinkles and other dullness :)
I definitely liked it. It exfoliates well, does not injure the skin, smells good too (and does not injure the nose either). It dries quickly, but not tightly - in the sense, there is no feeling that you were stuck in a shriveled hedgehog or, rather, a cement mitten. It is, however, not very easy to wash off - it is better to do this with a mitten or a waffle towel, but I also adapted a sponge-konjaka for this task. After the mask, the skin texture clearly becomes smoother, the pores on and around the nose are slightly reduced, and I don’t aim for more. I also noticed that if you apply it to your lips (the mask doesn’t burn or bake, but it’s better not to lick it, of course), then your lips then become beautifully pink and plump. I think it’s due to friction while you’re filming - well, the menthol in the composition makes itself felt.
Masha Botvinina
Skin: sensitive, prone to dehydration
Immediately after application, the mask burns just a little. Then it dries on the face so that it is difficult to even move it. At this moment it must be washed off. Large particles are cranberry seeds; in the total mass they look quite rough, but in fact they exfoliate gently and delicately. They have only one drawback - the particles are difficult to wash off and I always have several pieces left on my face and have to literally pick them off)
But the result is simply wow! It was as if I had been resting for a month and breathing crystal clear mountain air. The skin glows and radiates freshness and health (where are my 17 years?!). And at the same time, it is smooth and soft (and I didn’t have such skin when I was 17!) And the skin tone has become so even that I don’t even want to put on makeup. A super product that I will add to my must-have list.
Karina Tumanskaya
Skin: normal, sometimes a little dry. There is rosacea and pigmentation
It’s a completely working mask, but it didn’t excite me as much as Masha did. Yes, it perfectly evens out skin tone, tightens pores, and gives a glow. But there are a couple of “buts” - firstly, it’s really difficult to wash off. Even my favorite method with a Glov glove doesn’t help much - it takes a long time to pick out the scrubbing particles. Secondly, it dries and tightens the skin a little. So, I like it as an emergency “I-go-out-in-the-world-in-5-minutes” remedy, but I wouldn’t dare use it permanently.
Lena Korenkova
Skin: problematic, dehydrated
Radiance is generally the last thing on your mind when you have problem skin (what's the point if foundation covers everything up?). After using it, I noticed that my face looked polished. And she went looking with her eyes: “What else?” I found that the mask cleanses and mattifies a little (clay is the second ingredient in the composition). But I agree with Karina, it can dry out if you don’t wash it off after 5 minutes (it’s better not to scroll through Facebook).
Would I say that I can't live without this mask? No. Is there the promised glow and exfoliation? Yes. And she also smells like cranberry dessert -).
Lena Loginova
Skin: sensitive, thin, problematic
I didn't like this mask at all. Yes, it smells and looks good, like crème brûlée with cranberry seeds. It is also easy to apply and does not cause any discomfort while it is on the face. But it’s sooo hard to wash it off! You rub, rub, rub, so that later, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you again find a cranberry seed somewhere on your nose. Not to mention the fact that the notorious seeds do not gently exfoliate, but naturally scratch when you try to wash them off. An additional bonus of this execution is the skin dried out to the point of parchment. I'm glad that I got a miniature and not a full jar-)
Olya Tretyakova
Skin: combination, dry, aged
Since I recently had a mask overdose, I didn’t even immediately remember what kind of mask it was. Cranberry seeds? The smell of dessert? Oh, yes. Just in case, I went and smeared myself with it again right now. She smells really nice. The cranberry particles act as a scrub while you apply the mask. It dries out even faster for me than for other girls - in about 3 minutes. It doesn’t sting. It washes off... well, not that instantly, of course, but I didn’t notice any problems in this regard. Any tangible result, too. There is shine - due to the fact that this mask polishes the skin very well. But “shine” is still not “shine”.
Yulia Grebenkina
Skin: combination, problematic, slightly dehydrated, sensitive
I am a well-known dislike of masks - as I have said more than once, it seems to me that they rarely do anything really noticeable in effect to the skin. I always keep rare exceptions on hand -) What attracted me to this Kiehl's mask was the clause about gentle exfoliation - I'm constantly looking for something on this topic. And I liked the mask: the skin after it was smooth, really well exfoliated (now, after a month of swimming in the chlorine of the pool, I can definitely talk about this), radiant and somehow... cheerful or something.
The only negative found is that my sensitive skin becomes pinker after it, not whiter (I think this is due to the menthol in the composition). And, well, one more thing - large particles of the same cranberries in the composition are a little difficult to wash off. For this I take some kind of damp towel or microfiber.
As a result: I was pleasantly surprised - the effect is really visible. The main thing is to hydrate well immediately after.

Night face mask for protection against aggressive environmental factors Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque, Kiehl's
The mask promises to protect the skin from negative environmental influences that lead to dull skin and a gray complexion. It contains extracts of Chinese parsley (or, more commonly speaking, cilantro) and bitter orange. They should even out the skin tone, and with constant use, renew it.
The mask is used at night: you need to leave it for 5 minutes, then blot it with a napkin to remove excess, and go to bed -). After using it, be sure to apply sunscreen for at least three days - it contains acids.
Yana Zubtsova Skin: normal, sometimes prone to dryness, sometimes to oily, there are wrinkles and other dullness :)
And I liked this mask even more than the first. True, I didn’t use it according to the rules - not at night, but in the morning, for a couple of hours, when I didn’t have to run anywhere. (I don’t really understand masks at night - I sleep with my face in the pillow, why does the pillow need expensive care? :) Then I washed it off with warm water. The muzzle is immediately fresh and somehow... mmm... ripe?:) But definitely not overripe. The mask unexpectedly tasted sweet. For some reason this made me laugh, just like when I was a child. Now I use it constantly, once every two or three days. I even take it on trips.
Masha Botvinina
Skin: sensitive, prone to dehydration
I didn't understand this mask. All it does for my skin is just hydrate. This is probably the promised protection from the environment - if so, then the hydration is excellent. But there are a few “buts”. First of all, the mask is very sticky. Secondly, my skin does not completely absorb it and in the morning I feel an unpleasant film on my face. And if I usually wash off night moisturizing masks in the morning with just water, this requires a gel.
Karina Tumanskaya
Skin: normal, sometimes a little dry. There is rosacea and pigmentation
I was quite pleased with the glow mask, but this green one, on the contrary, delighted me. Naturally, I applied it with concern that it might clog my pores. The pores were not clogged at all, on the contrary, the next morning the skin was smooth, with an even tone, the pores were significantly reduced, and in general the whole appearance was somehow rested and radiant. I liked the result so much that I simply gave up on using foundation that day. The effect, by the way, lasted for two or three days.
Lena Korenkova
Skin: problematic, dehydrated
Night masks are just my story. (But I stubbornly don’t understand the part about “protection from aggressive environmental factors.” I can imagine what I should see the next morning after a moisturizing or nourishing mask, but what to expect after a protective mask? :)) And yet, this is a good mask, even excellent. It saved me from dryness and flaking after two trips on the Sapsan in one day. The skin after it is soft and even-smooth. It is a rare case when a mask with acids does not tighten, but rather softens. Olya and Lena Loginova write about stickiness, but it is felt for two or three minutes after application (usually during this time I do not have time to fall face first into the pillow). There is usually nothing to wash off - the mask is completely absorbed.
If I was planning a transatlantic flight (when, when already?), I would take her with me to the cabin. The skin is intact, the neighbors are calm - when applied, the mask turns from light green into an invisible cream.
Lena Loginova
Skin: sensitive, thin, problematic
My relationship with this mask was better than with the previous one. It has a pleasant gel-cream texture, although it smells strange - a mixture of mint and shish kebab. But I even liked the smell. It is applied and distributed easily, the effect was also pleasing - moisturizing without clogged pores. I don’t know about protection from aggressive factors; I don’t seem to have them in my bed. The big disadvantage is that it is sticky; the mask forms a film of superglue on the face. I was seriously afraid that in the morning I would raise my head from the bed with the pillow glued to my cheek. Washing off this sticky splendor is not a pleasant task, I had to use a cleanser and a sponge. Overall, I liked the effect, but the stickiness and difficulty in rinsing off bother me. I'm afraid my hand will reach out to this jar very rarely.

Skin: combination, dry, aged
This mask turned out to be fun. Having received it for testing, one of the beauty insiders came to our work chat and said: “The green mask, by the way, is sweet...” Troll! Of course, after that everyone tried it! I licked her too. And yes, she is sweet. I didn't really like the sticky film that the mask left on my face. After half an hour, as the instructions said, I tried to remove the excess with a napkin. This turned out to be difficult - it is removed with great difficulty, and the skin remains sticky after it. To be honest, I didn’t notice the effect of the face mask. So I’ll probably leave it until times of famine. Still, it's quite tasty.
Yulia Grebenkina
Skin: combination, problematic, slightly dehydrated, sensitive
I approached this new product for a long time because of a latent fear of night masks as a class - on my problem skin, these give inflammation in the morning, and not freshness and hydration. But I should have read the release and the information on the can more carefully - it, of course, moisturizes, but also contains exfoliating alpha-hydroxy acids, so I took a chance. The mask is an ordinary cream mask, it does not give any sensations on the skin. I blotted it overnight with a napkin and went to bed. In the morning - just smooth, calm, beautiful skin, which doesn’t even seem to need moisturizing. Everything is fine, I have a desire to use it again and again (though I liked the first mask better -)).

Dull complexion, according to statistics, is the most common problem of women around the world, and it is not always associated with the aging process of the skin. According to a survey by L'Oreal, 70% of women in the US, 64% in Japan, 62% in France and 46% in China complain of dull and lifeless skin.
Unhealthy skin tone (pale, grayish-pale, sallow) can occur even in young people who lead an unbalanced lifestyle or suffer from various ailments. As a rule, a dull complexion is combined with increased dryness and sensitivity of the skin. It also deteriorates from lack of sleep: we go to bed late and get up early for work, the body does not have time to rest and recover, and as a result, cells age much earlier. Thus, the skin gives us an “alarm signal” that its cells lack nutrients, moisture and oxygen.
Many women try to disguise a dull complexion with makeup or relieve symptoms with expensive dermatological and cosmetic procedures. And from time immemorial, famous fashionistas have used face masks containing natural ingredients.
For example, Marie Antoinette used egg whites to reduce pore size and smooth skin. Yang Gui Fei , a famous Chinese beauty of the Tang Dynasty, used crushed pearls to lighten, tighten and brighten her skin. The great fashion trendsetter Cleopatra used milk (lactic acid) to cleanse, nourish and rejuvenate the skin.
The specialists at the pharmaceutical cosmetics company Kiehl's also consider masks one of the most important skin care products and are constantly developing innovative products. One of the new products, Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque, is designed to give the skin radiance, and the other, Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque, protects the skin from aggressive environmental influences.
Mask for radiant skin with turmeric and cranberry seeds
Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque combats dull complexion and signs of fatigue with natural ingredients. The product contains turmeric and cranberry seeds. Turmeric is a root of a plant from the ginger family that has been used in Indian and Chinese medicine for over 100 years. It is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric extract cleanses the skin of impurities, has powerful antioxidant and antiseptic effects and regulates sebum production. And crushed cranberry seeds in the mask exfoliate dead cells.
The mask gives an instant boost of energy, freshness and radiance to dull skin with signs of fatigue, gives it a healthy appearance and visibly reduces pores. Ground cranberry seeds promote gentle exfoliation, leaving skin noticeably smoother. After just two weeks, the skin looks more energized and less tired (by 88%) and its appearance is significantly improved.
Orange Essence: Kiehl 's to Human Problems
Night mask Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque is designed to protect the skin from aggressive environmental factors.
Scientists have proven that poor ecology has a detrimental effect on our appearance. Both pimples and more serious problems, in particular acne and skin eczema, can be a consequence not only of the hormonal surge typical of adolescence, but also of negative environmental influences.
According to scientific data, there are five types of pollution that negatively affect the condition of the skin. Particulate matter and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons cause oxidative stress, destroy the protective barrier and impede skin repair. Oxides lead to the formation of free radicals, which increases skin sensitivity. VOCs increase transepidermal water loss, which increases susceptibility to allergens and damages the skin barrier. Ozone depletes vitamins C and E in the skin and causes premature aging.
Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque fights the main enemies of healthy skin and acts in three ways: prevents free radicals from affecting cells (stops damage), strengthens and strengthens the skin's protective functions and helps the skin become less susceptible to pollution.
The mask contains extract of young fruits of bitter orange, which is a powerful antioxidant, and vitamin E, which nourishes the skin and strengthens its protection.
The price of masks is 175 NIS. per jar 100 ml.
Can be purchased at all Kiehl's stores: Ramat Aviv Shopping Center, Tel Aviv Dizengoff Center Shopping Center, Tel Aviv, TLV Fashion Mall, Tel Aviv, Grand Canyon Shopping Center, Haifa.
Kiehl's is a natural cosmetics company with a 165-year history.
Kiehl's is a famous American premium cosmetics brand. Its history began 165 years ago with a small family pharmacy opened by Dutch emigrant John Kill. In 1910, Irving Morse, a Russian emigrant of Jewish origin, an expert on medicinal herbs and plants, began working there. Kiehl's. Part 1. Masks.
Hello, dear forum users! Getting to know the Kiehl's brand greatly brightened up my vitamin-deficient February, and today I will tell you how it was.
To organize my story, I divided it into categories and will describe the masks first, because they aroused my increased interest. Don’t feed me honey, let me smear something on my face).
I'll start with
Mask for instant skin glow
Turmeric & cranberry seed energizing radiance masque
What does this bright jar promise?
With turmeric and cranberry seeds. The mask gives an instant boost of energy, freshness and radiance to dull skin with signs of fatigue, gives it a healthy appearance and visibly reduces pores. Ground cranberry seeds promote gentle exfoliation, leaving skin noticeably smoother.
What to do with it?
Apply the mask to cleansed facial skin. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes until dry. Rinse off the mask with warm water, gently massaging and allowing the cranberry seeds to do their exfoliating action. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Recommended use up to 3 times a week.
That's exactly what I did. In the sachet the mask looks like this:
The consistency of freshly diluted plastic clay interspersed with crushed seeds and peels (cranberries? turmeric?).
The aroma is light, cosmetic, with a hint of berry. It doesn’t make my mouth water, there are no gourmet associations, and for me this is rather a plus.
Applied:
After 10 minutes the mask dried well:
When applied, you immediately get a 2 in 1 feeling: the mask cools and warms up at the same time. As it dries, the usual tightening stage for clay substances and an unusual tingling sensation appear. Removing the mask is quite problematic; you need to soak it thoroughly, best with a warm compress.
And now about the result. It turned out to be unconvincing for me:
a) the mask left the skin feeling tight and, to a certain extent, dry. The feeling did not go away even after applying a moisturizer. This is the main disadvantage for me, which had to be corrected with the help of another, moisturizing mask.
b) the second minus is that along the contour of application, where the layer is thinner and had time to dry well, the mask left behind obvious redness of the skin. They, of course, came down, but not at all as quickly as we would like.
c) the mask coped with its task of instant radiance, freshness and other delights. Because the radiance is in the eyes), and the difficulties with washing it off, dryness and redness clearly did not add to this radiance for me.
Bottom line: I won’t buy this mask in full format; there are more effective ones. But young lovers of clay textures, as well as those with problem skin without allergic reactions, may be quite satisfied with the mask.

Night mask for protection against aggressive environmental factors
Cilantro & orange extract pollutant defending masque
What does this bright jar promise?
With extracts of Chinese parsley and bitter orange. The mask, enriched with extracts of Chinese parsley and bitter orange, provides protection against negative environmental influences, gives a feeling of comfort and makes the skin tone more uniform. With constant use, the skin looks renewed.
What to do with it?
Apply the mask in the evening to cleansed facial skin. Leave for 5 minutes, then blot your face with a napkin to remove excess. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. In the morning after your traditional skin care routine, be sure to apply SPF as the product contains AHA, which can make your skin more susceptible to sun damage. Recommended use up to 3 times a week.
In the sachet the mask looks like this:
This is a thick and quite dense substance. It applies easily, spreads well, and melts a little upon contact with the skin. And immediately envelops you with its aroma. This is a mixture of something menthol-eucalyptus-lavender + possibly tea tree + lime. I love such bright natural cocktails; they have a beneficial effect on my sleep, but they can have the opposite effect on sensitive people.
In addition, the mask contains a light cooling component, which further emphasizes the presence of mint.
According to the instructions, five minutes after application you are supposed to remove the remaining mask with a napkin, and this turns out to be quite problematic. Maybe I applied too much; Maybe I don’t blot it with the same napkins, but it turns out that it’s not the mask that is absorbed into the napkin, but, on the contrary, the napkin sticks tightly. But the pillow coped with this problem perfectly - it took on all the excess))).
About the morning results: a feeling of heavy, viscous, not absorbed cream on the face, especially where the pillow did not reach; This cannot be washed off with plain water or gentle foams, only with the help of deep cleansing washes. After all the procedures, the face looks quite fresh, but something tells me: the negative impact of this mask, heavy on the skin, overshadows the positive from the morning contemplation.
I am familiar with a similar overnight mask from Dr. Jart+, and I like it much better.
P.S. There is one side effect that appeared after the fact: sensitive areas, namely the “flaps” of the nose, were burned after the mask and began to itch and peel. Sorry for the details.
P.P.S. The burned skin still makes itself felt in the form of flakes (a week later); This is an anti-record for me.
In general, unfortunately, the new product did not live up to expectations.
Well, the last magician
Amazonian White Clay Pore Refining Mask
Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque
What does this jar promise?
This mask is an absolute favorite of clients and beauty bloggers in Russia.
Enriched with Amazonian clay, the mask effectively cleanses pores and promotes their noticeable narrowing, removes dead cells from the surface of the skin, and reduces oily shine.
Suitable for normal, oily and oily skin types.
What to do with it?
Use the mask 1-2 times a week. Apply a thin layer of the product to cleansed, damp facial skin, avoiding the area around the eyes, leave for 10 minutes until dry, rinse with warm water or remove the product with a damp sponge.
And again clay. But it is logical here, unlike a mask, which is for instant radiance: what, if not clay, can cleanse pores and reduce oily shine?
In the sachet the mask looks like this:
The texture is very plastic, homogeneous, smooth. The smell is light and refreshing.
It is applied simply and pleasantly, creates a feeling of coolness and tingles in porous areas of the skin. As the mask dries, the tingling subsides and the chill intensifies slightly. And, naturally, a feeling of tightness arises.
After 10 minutes, a perfectly smooth, homogeneous layer of dried clay remains on the face, which, unlike a “beauty mask,” can be removed without problems with a sponge or a wet compress.
The result is a clean, elastic, polished face. And, by the way, not overdried. The feeling of coolness persists for quite a long time. I definitely like it. In our crazy hot summer it will be just right.
P.S. I can’t judge about deep cleansing of pores, probably the main thing here is regular use.
So, let me summarize my brief acquaintance with Kiehl's masks:
- in reality, not everything is as rosy as promised;
- They should be handled carefully in terms of dosage. This is exactly the case when it is better to under-than over-, otherwise troubles in the form of redness and peeling are possible;
— all the tested masks are not unique and have analogues among other brands;
+ I was truly pleased only with the Mask with Amazonian white clay;
+++ All masks have very positive, bright and naturalistic scents.
Well, special thanks to the brand for the samples. Excellent sachets that gave an idea of the product and saved you from unnecessary expenses.
I hope that if anyone has a question about purchasing these masks, my story will be useful.

After just ten minutes of use, it significantly restores the level of moisture, making the skin smoother, softer, improves complexion, adding radiance.
Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask
Kiehl's Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque is a misunderstood product
25.01.2017
I've had the Kiehl's Toning Mask with Turmeric and Cranberry Seeds for quite some time now, but I still couldn't get around to writing about it. The fact is that I usually got along very well with the brand’s masks: our family still actively uses our favorite cleanser, the scrub with the microdermabrasion effect left a good impression, I’m delighted with their night mask. Somehow, a priori, I already expect an excellent and immediately visible effect from Kiehl’s masks - but this one left me with incomprehensible impressions. Well, as long as you can wait, it’s time to write a review.
In general, the effect of the mask is described as toning and giving the skin radiance, but in fact it is peeling plus cleansing (does not contradict what is stated, however - nothing improves complexion like peeling). The main active ingredients are turmeric extract, which acts as an antioxidant and antiseptic and controls sebum production, as well as cranberry oil and seeds. The oil also gives an antioxidant effect, and the seeds here act as abrasive particles, this is what it looks like:
It also contains clay - kaolin and bentonite, jojoba seed oils and eucalyptus leaves, camellia and peppermint leaf extracts, menthol. And the mask smells exactly like menthol and mint, which is pleasant.
You should use the mask like this: apply, leave for 5-10 minutes until it dries, and then rinse with warm water, massaging your face in the process so that the cranberry seeds work a little like a scrub. And this stage makes the mask the most unbearable of all that I have ever had! Seeds end up literally everywhere, they “crawl” out of the general thickened mass rather poorly, and this also doesn’t look like normal scrubbing—it’s like you’re rolling some balls over the skin. And even after it seems that you have finally washed your face clean, individual seeds end up here and there on the skin (and I can’t describe how beautiful the sink is)! The L'Etoile sponge napkin really, really helps me out; without it, I wouldn't even dare to use the mask a second time.
Well, as for the effect, it is offensively moderate - and this is for such and such torment. Yes, the skin becomes brighter, smoother, pores become smaller (as after many cleansing masks with clay). But nothing that special.
However, I’ve read much more enthusiastic reviews, so I don’t rule out that for some the result will be worth picking cranberries off your face. But that’s how it is for me.
Approximate price - 3300 rubles. (check in store)
