Concealer palette: what is it?

A concealer palette is a set of professional beauty products. Under one cover, several shades of concealer are collected not only for different skin types, but also for different problem areas.

Such palettes are used for color correction even before applying foundation. They help in spot masking imperfections by neutralizing skin color in a particular area of the face.

Textures

One of the most important steps to understanding how to apply facial concealers is the composition of the cosmetics. Having a good understanding of this topic, you will be able to choose the right product for your skin type, and then your makeup will lie smoothly and harmoniously.

Liquid

The form of this product is similar to a light fluid or foundation. It is ideal for dry and normal epidermis types. It can often provide additional hydration. Due to its texture, it blends out perfectly. It is best to use a sponge or a thick brush with it.

Creamy

In operation, it can be compared to a body butter or cream shadows. It adheres very well to the skin, but is quite difficult to blend. Girls with increased secretion of subcutaneous fat are better off avoiding cosmetics with this structure: it can impart an inappropriate oily sheen.

Dry

To produce this product, pure pigment is pressed with mineral binders. The result is something like powder. It is best used by girls with dry and normal type of epidermis. The crumbly product lays down in a light layer and looks quite natural.

Concealer palette: what color - for what?

The rules of color correction in makeup are based on the principle of the color wheel: those colors that are opposite each other on this circle neutralize each other. These are, for example, pairs such as red and green, purple and yellow. Shades for large palettes are selected precisely according to this logic. Next, we will analyze in detail what color is needed for what.

Green

This corrector is what you need if there are rashes, redness on the face, and if the vascular network is visible. When the skin tone itself is reddish, it is better to also enlist the help of a greenish-tinged primer; locally, concealer will cope with imperfections.

Violet

The main purpose of purple concealer in color correction is to rid the skin tone of yellowness, a dull “earthy” shade. If we talk specifically about concealers, then in purple they most often help hide age spots, freckles, and moles.

Pink

Just like the reddish color corrector, pink is used to disguise dark circles under the eyes - it does an excellent job of covering blue, purple and dark green shades. There is even such a beauty hack: if you don’t have the right concealer on hand, you can cover up the bruises with lipstick, and then hide the traces of its unauthorized use with foundation.

Yellow

He is also able to make dark circles under the eyes invisible, and at the same time return a fresh and cheerful appearance to the skin and face. In addition, with the help of yellow concealer you can “hide” red-brown spots - these are, for example, acne marks. Read about other ways to use it here.

Nude

This is a universal option. If you do not have specific problems that require the use of multi-colored concealers, you can use a neutral, that is, flesh-colored product. White concealer has the same properties, but it can also be useful in other situations - for example, if you need to lighten a foundation that you bought in the wrong shade by mistake.

How to use a facial concealer palette: step-by-step photo instructions

Look at your skin and evaluate its condition: are there any imperfections that you would like to divert attention from? The result of the “examination” will be the starting point when performing makeup with a concealer palette.

If there are several problems, mask them using the desired colors one at a time. Start with those areas of the skin that require intervention the most: these could be dark circles from lack of sleep or, say, large rashes. Then treat minor defects (pigment spots, small pimples). While you are working on minor skin imperfections, the first layers of concealer will have time to dry, which will make the corrective makeup more durable.

Don't forget about shading. Before applying foundation over concealer patches, soften the edges so that they blend into the skin. Otherwise, the contours of areas with color correctors will be visible even through a layer of cream.

How to properly apply concealer to your face: step-by-step tips with photos and videos

To achieve the effect of visual plasticity, just follow the following basic steps.

It is important to ensure good care before applying makeup. Wash your face with cleansing foam or milk, then use a toner and apply a moisturizer suitable for your skin type.
Apply a primer or base - this will guarantee durability.
Create an even tone using powder, BB cream or foundation.
Using a color that is two shades darker than your natural color, draw two straight lines along the edges of the bridge of the nose.
Highlight your cheekbones. To “find” them, you can pull your cheeks in like a fish and draw stripes along the sunken areas.
A photo of how to properly apply concealer to your face often involves darkening the top of your forehead. Apply a few strokes of dark cosmetics along the hairline.
Highlight the apples of your cheeks, add a little highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes, as well as to the bow of your upper lip, under your eyebrow and on your chin.
Blend your corrective makeup. Start with light areas and then gradually move to dark areas. Stop periodically to check your makeup in good lighting conditions. Make sure that the sculpting looks as natural as possible.
Complete your makeup with other details: apply eyelashes, lipstick and eyebrows.

Tips for use and life hacks

The nude concealer you use to correct imperfections should always be slightly lighter than your skin tone.
Apply pink or beige concealer under your eyes in an inverted triangle, “stretching” the color downwards - this will better hide dark circles. And mask pimples with small dots, without going beyond the redness.

It is not necessary to use the concealers from the palette only for their intended purpose. They can come in handy, for example, if you want to get a new shade of lipstick. The creamy texture allows you to experiment by mixing products of different colors with each other.

Errors during use

It is very difficult to achieve an ideal result the first (and sometimes even the second and third) time. Even experienced makeup artists sometimes encounter small mistakes. The most common of them are collected in the list below.

Wrong selection of cosmetics. A discrepancy between the skin type and the texture of the product can greatly affect the quality of the make-up and aggravate all imperfections.
Wrong choice of shades.
Insufficient shading. If you don't blend the cosmetic product to the right extent, it will look unnatural and awkward. At the end of the makeup process, make sure that all the brown streaks create a shadow effect, and the green, lilac and pink strokes are well hidden by the tone.

1— Face sculpting

For contouring you will need at least 2 shades. To highlight - one shade lighter than you usually use, to darken - two shades darker. Highlighting gives additional volume, and darkening is done to visually reduce the desired areas. In order to make the nose more graceful, you should apply a light shade in the center and two dark stripes on the sides of it. To raise your eyebrow, you need to highlight the area underneath it. 2 – Concealing bruises and dark areas under the eyes

Under the eyes, concealer is applied in the shape of a triangle with the apex on the cheek. Remember to apply the product to the inner corner and try to stay as close to your lower lash line as possible to make your makeup less noticeable. Afterwards you need to shade it using a method convenient for you. Gently tap it into the skin; rubbing may damage the skin.

3 — Correcting mistakes in makeup

Concealer will also help you easily correct some makeup mistakes. For example, reduce the length or width of the arrow, remove lipstick that extends beyond the contour of the lips, or correct drawn-in eyebrows.

4 - Emphasizing the contour of the eyebrows

To give the eyebrows a clearer shape, a thin strip is drawn under the lower border of the eyebrows, which is then shaded. All this should be done with a thin brush.

5 – Giving extra volume to the lips

If you apply concealer to the middle of your lips and press in with your fingertips, and then apply gloss, your lips will look plumper.

6 — Giving the face a lifting effect by lightening wrinkles

Masking under-eye circles and lightening wrinkles will help refresh your face and achieve a lifting effect. To do this, preference should be given to products with a light texture and the presence of reflective particles. Before using cosmetics, be sure to use a moisturizer. Apply the product along the nasolabial folds and in the corners of the lips in the area of marionette lines.

7 – Concealing acne and other imperfections

To disguise spots and pimples, the main condition is to apply the product to the edges and blend towards the center. Starting from the center of the pimple will only accentuate it.

However, I don’t cover my pimples with concealers as often as I use a concealer + foundation combo. Free bonus: it is suggested to look at how they cover freckles, which will still 100% become brighter in the summer, so this is a dubious indicator.

I still really like this concealer: it applies thinly, but still provides opaque coverage, is comfortable to wear and lasts well until washed off. The original version of the Shape Tape concealer in the shade Fair. Ultra Creamy differs from the new product in that it is denser, more pigmented and drier. However, my skin did not feel dry with it, especially when applied with a damp sponge.

The shade, if I remember correctly, is now called 12S Fair, and is an option for fair skin with yellow undertones. The coverage, unlike the previous comrade, is much closer to complete. It adequately covers both blue and pigmentation without a mask effect.

With creases, the same nonsense as with Ultra Creamy: if you remove the concealer from the creases within 5-10 minutes after application (I didn’t remove it - you can see in the photo), then they usually don’t form afterwards.

The longevity of the product is decent, but it is my shade that noticeably oxidizes to yellow on me within an hour or two. Perhaps this is a disadvantage of the old formula or the result of the fact that I have been using the product for a long time (sorry, but applying 10 ml in six months, as the manufacturer advises, is unrealistic for me). Actually, that’s why I hardly use it now, but to say that it’s bad in other aspects would be hard to come by.

The pencil format was still not suitable for me. I don't really like how it pulls the skin when applied and occasionally clings to flaking. Additionally, it can sometimes pill over time, although this is usually not difficult to correct.

However, it has a suitable shade for snow-whites, especially for those who prefer pink, and a light, fairly natural-looking coverage - which can also be a plus. While its main disadvantages are not constant, but still appear from time to time.

Benefit Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer in No. 1

My only concealer in a puck today is Benefit Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer. Not everyone likes this format, since it needs to be applied with your fingers, but for the product itself, this application is only a plus: if you warm it up slightly with your fingertips, it applies better.

The texture is quite dense and even somewhat oily, but if you heat it up, it becomes softer. Most often, I apply it with one finger and then tap it clean and dry to help the concealer set better on the skin.

Unlike previous products, Benefit's concealer is closer to a color-correcting salmon shade, which makes it great for covering dark circles under the eyes. What’s surprising is that despite the color, it blends well into the skin.

However, among the products presented in the post, this is the weakest. Because of which? But because of this:

Concealer gets into creases

Due to its softness and the fact that it does not dry out completely, its main disadvantage arises: it appears in the folds within 15-20 minutes after application. In macro photographs it also usually looks much sadder than the others, although this can be minimized by the application trick described above. In terms of its properties, it reminded me of the corrector in the washer from Becca - if it doesn’t roll off on you, most likely there will be no problems with that either.

Finally, a comparison of all the concealers from the post based on the degree of overlap: which one will cope with black eyeliner if applied in one, albeit dense, layer. I applied all the products, except the Nudestix pencil, with my finger using light tapping movements.

In the end, in my opinion, IT Cosmetics, Jeffree Star Cosmetics and the original Tarte Shape Tape concealers did the job 85-100%. Ultra Creamy showed an average result - the line is still visible, but nevertheless it did better than the Benefit and Nudestix products.
