Use of Clindamycin for acne, acne and post-acne

To treat acne and pimples of various types, a complex of medications based on antibacterial and hormonal components is used. Clindovit is one of the most frequently prescribed, so many patients have questions about the content of hormones in the composition, since they pose some harm to the body.

Composition and release form

This drug is available in several dosage forms:

  • Capsules;
  • Lyophilisate (powder for preparing a solution);
  • Gel (clindamycin phosphate);
  • Solution (clindamycin hydrochloride).

The main and most important active ingredient in them is Clindamycin, a semisynthetic antibiotic from the lincosamide group.

Its most important advantages include:

  • High activity against the main strains of bacteria that cause acne;
  • Extremely low toxicity;
  • Effective penetration into the epidermis.
  • High concentration in tissues.

The effect of Clindovit on hormonal levels

The active substance clindamycin is a direct-use antibiotic and acts directly on the bacteria that cause the progression of acne.

The composition contains additional components that form a gel, as well as provide additional caring and softening effects. The medication does not contain hormonal substances.

The drug is not absorbed into the bloodstream and does not have a significant effect on the kidneys and liver, internal systems and organs. Does not affect hormonal levels and hormone production, cannot regulate the state of the endocrine system. Therefore, the medicine is used exclusively as an addition to the main therapy, including hormonal therapy.

Mechanism of action

Clindamycin is a substance in the form of a white powder that is highly soluble in water and alcohol. It has a pronounced bacteriostatic effect, which means that bacteria stop developing and multiplying, and, consequently, their number stops increasing and the body can more easily cope with their destruction.

Pathogenic bacteria develop an addiction to it, so this antibiotic must be used for a course, but not less than two weeks, to avoid the emergence of resistance.

If the medicine gets on the mucous membrane or in the eyes, rinse it immediately with plenty of clean water.

Contraindications

There are some contraindications to the use of Clindamycin for acne.

It should not be used internally or applied to the skin if you have:

  • Eczema;
  • fungus;
  • Psoriasis;
  • Irritations;
  • Dry skin;
  • Allergies to derivatives of this antibiotic, incl. to lincomycin.

We strongly do not recommend using antibiotic-based products during pregnancy and lactation, since it easily penetrates the placental barrier and can pass into breast milk.

Methods of using Clindamycin

This drug can be used in three forms:

  • Gel and solution;
  • Chatterbox;
  • Tonic;
  • Mask.

Each of these methods is effective in its own way; below we will explain why and give recommendations for proper use.

Gel

Dalatsin, Klindovit are good and effective products that, in combination with proper care, will help you achieve the desired result. Apply them pointwise to areas of inflammation in a thin layer, on previously cleansed skin.

  • Dalatsin

  • Klindovit

Chatterboxes

In this section, we have collected perhaps the best recipes for clindamycin shakes, which have proven to be effective and safe when used correctly. And the additional antibacterial components that are present in the composition will speed up the cleansing of the skin from annoying inflammations.

The biggest advantage of preparing the product yourself is its low price and ease of preparation with good efficiency and speed of obtaining the desired effect.

With zinc

To prepare you will need to take:

  • Salicylic acid – 20 ml;
  • Boric acid – 20 ml;
  • Clindamycin – 4 capsules;
  • Baby powder – 2 gr.

The antibiotic must be crushed to a powder and mixed with powder (which consists of 50% zinc oxide and 50% talc). Next, pour boric and salicylic acid into one bottle and pour the resulting mixture into it. Mix well and let it brew in the refrigerator for one day. The shelf life of the product is 14 days.

With dimexide and chloramphenicol

The combination of two mutually reinforcing antibiotics, supplemented with dimexide, allows you to achieve an amazing effect in a short time.

To prepare you will need to take:

  • Salicylic acid – 25 ml;
  • Boric acid – 25 ml;
  • Clindamycin – 2 capsules;
  • Levomycetin – 2 tablets;
  • Dimexide – 3 ml.

Mix boric and salicylic acids in one bottle. Grind clindamycin and chloramphenicol until smooth. Pour the resulting powder into a bottle and add dimexide there. Shake vigorously and let it sit for one day in the refrigerator. Shelf life – 14 days.

Indications and features of use

According to the instructions, indications for use of the drug Clindovit include only acne and inflammatory rashes. The medication is used primarily for the treatment of classic acne (acne vulgaris). The gel helps to cope directly with the infectious lesion and the inflammatory processes that it generates.

Method of application: the composition is applied to the surface in a thin layer without further removal.

Before application, the skin must be thoroughly cleaned and dried.

The drug should be used up to two to three times a day. The therapeutic course is prescribed by the attending dermatologist. The classic period is six to eight weeks. If necessary, the course can be extended to six months or repeated after several months at the discretion of the doctor. The introduction of the drug as part of complex therapy is allowed.

Analogs

Clindamycin analogues are usually prescribed in case of individual intolerance or ineffectiveness of this antibiotic. These include any antibiotic of the lincosamide series.

In the table below you can see the compatibility of lincomycin (Clindamycin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the lincosamide group, an analogue of lincomycin) with other antibiotics, and where there is a ++ sign, we can say that the antibiotic combines well and (or) is similar in its action. So, when used together, their antibacterial activity increases.

If you want to supplement a mash or mask with an additional antibacterial component, thereby increasing its effectiveness, then consider exactly those drugs that are marked with two pluses.

Other drugs containing Clindamycin

The drugs listed below have high proven effectiveness, but their price can be several times higher than the above drugs and can “hit hard” on the pocket of the average person.

Clenzit – C

Two active ingredients present in this product:

  • Adapalene;
  • Clindamycin.

Create a powerful antimicrobial combination. The antibiotic destroys pathogenic bacteria, and the latest generation Retinoid normalizes cell differentiation, whitens the skin and protects against the appearance of blackheads.

Zerkalin

This drug is a solution that differs from the gel in the form of the active substance (hydrochloride, not phosphate), as well as the alcohol present in the composition. Which has an additional antiseptic and drying effect.

They are not recommended to wipe the entire face, but apply only to problem areas. This is due to the fact that the product can cause an increase in oily skin or contribute to its dryness.

All medications described in the article are used externally, but to enhance effectiveness, they can also be used orally as prescribed by a doctor. This drug has various contraindications and may cause unwanted side effects. Therefore, before use, consult your doctor to prescribe the dosage and duration of the course. Please take care of your health and do not self-medicate.

Analogues of the drug in pharmacy chains

In practice, analogs are used that are more expensive and cheaper than Clindovit, if the latter demonstrates insufficient effectiveness or for some reason cannot be used in a particular situation (for example, due to increased sensitivity to the composition). Most often, antibiotics of other groups, bactericidal plant and chemical substances are prescribed as substitutes. Complex hormonal drugs are used less frequently.

NameActive substanceRelease formprice, rub.Description
ZerkalinClindamycin hydrochlorideAlcohol solution for external use350-400The drug is used to treat acne and is an analogue of Clindovit in the main substance. In practice, it demonstrates relative safety and effectiveness and can act as a gel substitute. The solution is applied directly to the affected area without further rinsing.
ZeneriteZinc acetate + ErythromycinPowder with solvent for preparing a composition for external use600-700Eiromycin is an antibiotic antagonist of clindamycin, but can become its substitute in the treatment of acne and acne of varying degrees of progression. Zinc acetate additionally tightens and binds secretions, preventing further inflammatory processes.
IndoxylClindamycin + benzoyl peroxideGel for external use600-700The drug can become a substitute for Clindovit, since it contains clindamycin as one of the main components. Benzoyl peroxide additionally has a bactericidal effect. A special feature of the substance is its ability to eliminate microorganisms resistant to the antibiotic.
AdapaleneAdapalene (artificial retinol analogue)Gel for external use250-350The drug has an active anti-inflammatory and anti-comedogenic effect and can be used for the treatment of acne and pimples in adolescents and adult patients. The component is not an antibiotic or steroid; its effectiveness is determined by the normalization of keratization and the prevention of the formation of comedones.

The listed medications are available without a doctor's prescription, but are prescribed by dermatologists and cosmetologists. They can be combined with cosmetics of a similar direction and be part of a complex treatment. The presence of an antibiotic in the composition indicates that the drugs should not be used for a long time due to increased bacterial resistance to the composition.

Clindamycin belongs to the group of antibiotics and its potential harm is possible only with prolonged use and the development of bacterial infection resistance to the composition. The substance does not concentrate in the blood, does not affect hormonal levels and does not pose a danger to the endocrine system, and is relatively harmless at any age. Therefore, it is allowed to introduce the gel into the complex treatment of acne and inflammation on the face for adults and adolescents.
