Clinical picture

Most patients do not have severe symptoms of the disease; in some cases they complain of mild or severe itching. The problem occurs in emotional people or patients with skin allergies that react inadequately to external stimuli.

The first sign of pathology is the formation of a “mother spot” - a large pink area of ​​dermis with pronounced peeling. After the scales are torn off, the spot acquires a brown tint and clear boundaries. It does not exceed 2-5 cm in diameter. Initially, a single focus of pityriasis rosea is registered, later several additional ones appear on the body.

Secondary spotting forms a few days after the appearance of the mother spot. Changes are recorded on the arms and legs, back, and abdomen. Secondary rashes have a similar shape, with a reddish or pinkish tint. They rarely occur in the neck or face. The appearance of the first spots requires immediate consultation with a doctor and treatment prescribed by a specialist.

Features of the course of pityriasis versicolor during pregnancy

Pityriasis disease is a fungal skin disease that can become active in any person under certain circumstances. These yeast-like fungi live on the skin of many people, but the activating factors are:

• increased sweating,
• changes in the composition of sweat and hormonal levels,
• weakening of the immune system,
• stress and some other factors.

It is not surprising that it is often during pregnancy that women discover signs of pityriasis versicolor on their bodies, because these factors are observed in many expectant mothers. It is immediately necessary to stipulate that pityriasis versicolor is a disease that is conventionally classified as non-infectious. Therefore, it cannot be transmitted to a child vertically or cause complications during pregnancy or childbirth. The woman can continue to be observed there. Varieties of pityriasis rosea

Experts identify several types of atypical pathology:

• with the absence of maternal plaque and localization of rashes on the facial and cervical areas;

Irritated lichen causes obsessive, severe itching. Vesicles, hemorrhages and pustules form on the patient's skin.

After the disappearance of the papules and recovery, some patients remain with marks in the form of pigmentation.

Diagnostics

A dermatologist diagnoses tinea versicolor in pregnant women. Most often, the doctor is able to make the correct diagnosis during the first examination of the patient. To confirm it, dermatoscopy of the affected skin area is performed.

Another method for diagnosing the disease is the Balzer iodine test. To do this, apply an iodine solution to the skin and monitor the reaction of the dermis. Since the skin in the affected areas is looser, it absorbs the solution much better than undamaged areas of the epidermis. Iodine can be replaced with brilliant green or fucarcin.

Another diagnostic method for detecting lichen is to determine the presence of Besnier's symptom. It is expressed in the fact that scraping the skin from the surface of the spots leads to severe peeling.

A scraping of the dermis is sent for microscopic examination. Fungal elements are found in the skin flakes, which look like long spaghetti with round inclusions on them. Doctors call the picture seen under a microscope “naval pasta.”
