The oxygen concentration in the blood drops and the amount of carbon dioxide rises. Hemoglobin of red blood cells firmly combines with a large volume of carbon dioxide, turning into carboxyhemoglobin. When in excess concentration, it colors the body tissues in a bluish tint.
Cyanosis is a change in the color of the mucous membranes, skin, nasolabial triangle into a violet, blackish or lilac hue and their variations; the condition indicates an insufficient supply of oxygen to the tissues, retention and increased concentration of carbon dioxide.

Types of cyanosis
