For work we take:
- cotton fabric,
- thin linen or hat elastic,
- threads with a needle,
- pencil,
- ruler,
- pins (or clips),
- scissors.
Manufacturing:
- Cut out a piece of fabric 36x20 cm, two elastic bands 17 cm long.
- Fold the fabric in half (36:2 = 18 cm) with the right side inward and sew with a straight seam along the edge, retreating 5-7 mm.
- Turn the workpiece inside out and iron the seam.
- We position the sewn sleeve so that the seam is at the bottom. You can put an additional layer of gauze inside.
- We measure 4 cm from the edge with a ruler and draw a line with a pencil. We draw the second line 2.5 cm from the first stripe, the third – 1.5 cm, the fourth – 2.5 cm, the fifth – 1.5 cm, the sixth – 2.5 cm.
- We make bookmarks by folding the fabric along the first line and placing it on the second. We fix the folds on both sides with pins or clips.
- In the following bookmarks, the 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th lines coincide. There are three folds in total.
- We retreat 1.5 cm on both sides and draw a line with a pencil. We sew with a stitch, fixing the folds. We remove the pins.

Homemade face masks: benefits and types
Women have been using face masks since ancient times, as they can solve a lot of problems. Homemade masks are so varied that you can alternate them every day using completely simple and inexpensive ingredients. They can relieve acne, irritation, dryness or oiliness, etc. To understand what kind of mask your skin type needs, consider all the options:
Film masks are a composition that, after application, turns into a film. These masks are good for oily and problem skin. They have a cleansing effect, tighten pores, remove “dead” skin particles, and also degrease and mattify the facial skin. They are sold ready-made, but can be easily made at home using gelatin.
Cream masks are universal. Suitable for any skin type, absorbs quickly and there is no need to rinse them off.
Fabric masks are a textile base, depending on the need, impregnated with any composition: vitamins, amino acids, minerals, etc. Such masks are effective and deliver nutritional composition not only to the superficial layers of the epidermis, but also to the deep ones. In this regard, they are often used to combat age-related changes and for problems of dry and damaged skin.
Cleansing masks are used as a preliminary procedure before any other cosmetic procedure. The essence is to cleanse the surface of the dermis from sebum, dead skin particles and dirt. These masks also help fight acne.
Moisturizing masks help restore skin and replenish water balance, which helps avoid sagging and slow down the aging process. These masks are necessary for any skin type, as thanks to them you can avoid age-related changes longer. These are the most popular masks offered in beauty salons and used at home. Most of them are based on hyaluronic acid, as it collects water molecules around itself at the cellular level and retains them.
Nourishing masks deliver essential nutrients to the skin in the form of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. For such masks, products with a high content of vitamins A, E, C and group B are usually selected. They give the skin freshness, make it healthier and have a healing effect, eliminating various dermatological problems.
Whitening masks are used to improve complexion and eliminate pigmentation. Typically, such masks can be combined with moisturizing or nourishing masks. The main whitening ingredient is lemon juice;
Therapeutic masks are designed to eliminate various problems with the facial skin, such as redness, acne, irritation, microcracks, or side effects after cosmetic procedures. They soothe the skin, relieve dryness, redness and have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. For their preparation, mainly medicinal herbs and other products with medicinal effects are used.
In order for masks to have the desired effect, firstly, they must be prepared not in metal containers, but in glass or plastic, made in portions and immediately before use. Secondly, you should know your skin type so that such procedures do not give the opposite negative result.
Any masks are best done on a STEAMED FACE, when the pores are enlarged.
How to determine your skin type
Before choosing a face mask, you need to determine your skin type. In classical cosmetology, it is customary to distinguish skin types:
- fatty,
- dry,
- normal,
- combined.
Since the needs of different skin differ markedly, a homemade face mask should be selected depending on what type you have.
As a rule, there are no problems with this, since girls are usually attentive to their appearance, and their skin type can be easily determined even by looking at themselves in the mirror. However, sometimes difficulties arise. Therefore, to accurately determine your skin type at home, wash your face using regular neutral soap and do not apply any products to it.
After about an hour and a half, apply a well-absorbing paper napkin tightly to your face. Carefully examine the napkin and evaluate the degree of oiliness of the skin:
- If there is a trace of sebum all over the surface of the napkin, it means that the skin is not tight at all, and you have an oily skin type.
- If there are no traces left on the napkin, but the skin does not peel off or feel tight, then your skin type is normal.
- If there are no greasy marks on the napkin, but you feel obvious tightness, then your skin is of the dry type.
- If your forehead, nose and chin are left with a greasy mark in the center of the napkin, and the skin in the area where your cheeks and temples are applied leaves no traces (dry or normal), then such an uneven distribution of fat content indicates a combined or mixed skin type.
Face masks: rules for applying at home
It is important not only to prepare the mask correctly in accordance with your skin type, but also to apply it correctly.
There are simple rules that are recommended to be followed so that the result can please you. So, we tell you how to properly apply a mask to your face:
- Pre-clean your facial skin with tonic or other cosmetics;
- It is advisable to apply the mask if you plan to stay at home for at least a few more hours after the procedure;
- The mask should be applied with light massage movements in a thin layer, unless otherwise specified in the recipe;
- The duration of the procedure should not exceed 20 minutes, unless another time is specified in the recipe;
- The mask is not applied to the skin around the eyes, as there is a thin and sensitive area there. There are separate creams and masks for the eyelids;
- If there are problems only with the T-zone, then different masks are used: for the problem area - one, for the cheeks - another;
- The ingredients for the future mask are mixed in any non-metallic container. The metal promotes oxidation, which causes ingredients to lose their desired properties.
When preparing the material, consultation was carried out by:

What did plague doctors carry in their beaks?
It is believed that medieval plague healers wore masks with a bird's beak to ward off the disease with such a frightening appearance. Is it true? By the way, the real plague doctor mask looked like this.
The real plague doctor mask looked like this
Let's start with the fact that there is no reliable information regarding what kind of protective equipment the doctors of the Middle Ages used. The canonical costume of the plague doctor developed already in modern times, and its author was the French court physician Charles de Lorme. His costume with a beak mask was introduced in 1619. But we note that in the museum of the city of Ingolstadt (Germany) there is an anti-plague mask dating back to the 16th century.
You can make such a mask with your own hands
Such costumes were used mainly in Catholic countries and had practical functions. Thanks to leather gloves, a raincoat and pants, contact with infected people was excluded. The suits were also soaked in camphor in order to “precipitate harmful miasmas.” Over time, scientists refuted the miasma theory, but camphor was still useful: it repelled fleas that carried the bubonic plague.
Plague Doctor Outfit
Important! Aromatic herbs were placed in the bird's beak to stop the miasma. In fact, the beak was a kind of respirator. There is a version that he did not allow doctors to approach the sick, but it is controversial. Indeed, in some costumes the beak looked more like a soft leather “proboscis”.
Modern version of the mask
To ensure distance, another attribute was used - a wooden rod 1-1.5 m long. Doctors used it to move the clothes of the patients and even feel the pulse. Sometimes a smoldering tinder was attached to the tip of the wand in order to cauterize the buboes from a distance.
